Meditation part 3: Surrender to the influence of your Inner Light

Updated: May 2

Those who fully embrace earthly life, surrender themselves so deeply to creation that they, as it were, begin to float in God's creation, in God's refuge, in God's light.

As you increasingly feel the value of your inner light, your soul, it is important that you do not undervalue what is on the surface of life. The surface is an incredible and miraculous layer of creation that is unparalleled. Everything that is observable belongs to the surface, which spans between the layer of deeply microscopic reality and the layer of cosmic reality that extends into infinity. The surface is like a house, which you will have to accept in order to pass through its door and enter the so far unseen interior to meet its inhabitant. If you reject the surface, you will not be able to find your way in, or recognize it as welcoming.

However, the surface only realizes its full value when you allow your depth to enter it. Meditation is therefore your willingness to let your depth come to the surface. Your depth has value and fullness which aren't so much things you can grasp, but are sensitive values. The substance of your depth does not consist of meaning, as many people think, but of value, of feeling. That is why allowing your depth to reach your surface means that you allow the outline, form and tangible clarity of the surface to be softened by the feeling of fullness. They then come together and form a whole, so that meaning and content, consciousness and feeling, embrace each other brotherly.

No matter the clarity of your awareness, it needs the fullness and depth of feeling to truly experience and realize what you essentially are. The precision of your perception, through your intellect, can be as sharp, precise, accurate or true as a surgeon’s knife, but without the fullness and depth of your being, any search for truth can become dangerous when it becomes tied to an identity, because this can make you rigid, judgmental and merciless. You need the fullness of your inner depth to place the clarity and sharpness of your awareness in a proper emotional context and to truly arrive at wisdom and insight.

So let meditation assist you to continually foster the relationship between you and your essence, between you and your soul, between you and your depth. Let meditation give you the space, so that the fullness and depth of your being can influence the incredibly remarkable surface of your brain, your perception, your faith and your point of view. Let your meditation help the fullness of your substance fulfill, saturate and envelop all these aspects of the surface, so that you as a human being can exist in your wholeness again. Then that wholeness can support your path of development, give warmth to your relationships and give you the wisdom to meet and understand life and other people more deeply and more truly. Then your meditation has truly enriched you, illuminated your pathway through life, and given space to the healing quality of love.

Peace is the direct and open experience of being together with reality.

If you have ever felt what it means for your inner depth to affect your surface, you have been in touch with the extraordinary energy that arises when you feel that surface and depth are no longer separate. You feel how, in this wholeness, nothing needs to be excluded and everything can be there at the same time and together. Meditation is about this very special union.

When you meditate, it always begins with your natural longing for fulfillment that lives in all of us. What is real within you, what fills you, what enriches your existence, is already living within you and cannot be found outside of you. Your depth, your fulfillment, longs to be allowed to flow, to expand, to become real. It longs for you because you, through your human existence, are the only field on which it can flow and become realized. Both are actually longing for each other. Your soul longs for your humanity and your humanity longs for your soul.

This is not always understood, and this quickly causes your ego to be driven to seek an external solution. A strong outward orientation of your willpower will also block the free passage of your inner value to the surface of your being. Therefore, willpower is not a meaningful approach to answering your spiritual longing. When you realize that no external solution can answer this longing, you will feel the need for meditation.

It's a great misunderstanding that spirituality transcends one’s humanity. A human being is the spiritual reality.

If you are open to meditation, it means that you have already become aware of your spiritual depth and are willing to be influenced by the radiant love energy of your soul. Your soul senses that the softening of your ego means that you are increasingly realizing that willpower cannot create a quality such as wholeness, and this leads to a flow of loving compassion being released during your meditation.

As this compassion continues to soften your ego, it is no longer afraid of being overwhelmed by the influence of the soul. The soul's intrinsic value can therefore come to you and become real to you, and you feel it giving you feelings of peace and reconciliation. The soul feels that through this exchange it comes into contact with the life force and life space of your humanity and how this gives it the space to become real. Your human existence becomes in service to your soul, and your soul serves you with the gift of its loving, healing, essential nourishment.

Meditation is about this friendship, because everything in this creation, and therefore also in you, has its value and place. Friendship, the openness to connect with the other, is the only thing in everything that truly heals. Your human self and your spiritual soul are like your surface and your depth, your body and your soul, the transient and the permanent, form and substance, strength and love. When they embrace each other in friendship, it paves the way for you to immerse yourself in the wholesome value of friendship in your life with everything around you. Therefore, embrace all the apparent differences that you encounter in yourself and in your relationships with others and immerse yourself in the brotherly atmosphere of friendship. Then you will feel that your meditation truly has an effect on your involvement in the world and society, even though meditation begins with paying attention to and reflecting on yourself.

Thank your ego for its faithful service, give it room to retreat, and then allow the richness of your soul to enter.

Friendship between your ego and your soul, and vice versa, ensures that you no longer reject your ego for its shortcomings, but always accept it first and allow it to come into the light so that it can be understood. Friendship between your ego and your soul, and vice versa, ensures that you no longer glorify your soul for its radiant love, but that you always give your soul permission to become tangibly true through you so that you can meet it. Enjoy their friendship and the loving wholeness you experience as a human being, which is called meditation.
